Why do the most awful fanfiction.net stories get the most reviews?

That’s something I would like to know.

Although, I have people have told me that they like my writing, but yet they don’t leave a review.

Apparently fanfiction.net doesn’t allow script format. There goes my plans. Also, someone on a forum thread asking why script format isn’t allowed said “Script format doesn’t count as writing. Also, many time when I stumble upon a script format story, I go back. Script format is a pain to read” and that makes me really mad.

Well, I think they got banned because the staff couldn’t tell the difference between “Chat room or keyboard dialogue based entries” and script fics.

When did fanfiction.net start letting you put more than 2 characters in the search field?

Seriously, this has totally messed up my ability to search for stories…….

If you had pay attention to their blog, you would have found out about this change a long time ago.

WriteWorld: I'm done explaining why fanfic is okay. →

bookshop:

Note: this post was originally made in 2010 in response to Diana Gabaldon’s epic rant about fanfiction. The original version is still being updated. I’m reposting it to Tumblr by request, but if you have any additions, please feel free to drop a comment at LJ so they can be added to the masterpost!

Dear Author of the Week,

You think fanfic is a personal affront to the many hours you’ve spent carefully crafting your characters. You think fanfic is “immoral and illegal.” You think fanfiction is just plagiarism. You think fanfiction is cheating. You think fanfic is for people who are too stupid/lazy/unimaginative to write stories of their own. You think there are exceptions for people who write published derivative works as part of a brand or franchise, because they’re clearly only doing it because they have to. You’re personally traumatized by the idea that someone else could look at your characters and decide that you did it wrong and they need to fix it/add original characters to your universe/send your characters to the moon/Japan/their hometown. You think all fanfic is basically porn. You’re revolted by the very idea that fic writers think what they do is legitimate.

We get it.

Congratulations! You’ve just summarily dismissed as criminal, immoral, and unimaginative each of the following Pulitzer Prize-winning writers and works:

Historical Addition: Another Destiny →

This is a little story about what happened if something stopped Atemu from going to the afterlife.

I kind of wish I would get some more feedback on what is good.

So I got this private message on fanfiction.net this morning. I was reading through the terms and agreements to see if there is anything else I could do besides block the user, but apparently there isn’t. So I’ve decided to share this message with all of you. This user took the time to read my fanfiction profile (albeit not very well) and then send me a very juvenile and hate-filled message. I think it was only appropriate to block her—I’d rather have her kicked off of fanfiction, but her account is likely a false one. She has no fanfictions written or in her favorites, nothing in her profile, etc. Even if kicked off, all she would need to do is create another account. So there is really nothing to do to make her learn from her transgressions. Maybe, at the very least by posting here, she’ll learn to write her messages of hate more eloquently.

Wow, I have never seen someone like this on fanfiction.net. Since she doesn’t have any fanfiction, it might be sock puppet account, but I don’t think that would be the case.

I want to use “gobsmacked” in a sentence in this fanfic, but it didn’t feel right.

ninjadotwritings:

what is up with ff.net removing the & ?

seriously though they just made it harder to read

The & was removed from where at on fanficton.net?

Edit: Never mind I found out where they removed the &. Now I understand what happened. It is probably related to them adding four characters, but I think they needs something to separate character names at least.

Just went on FanFiction.net and entered in the two characters I wanted from the character drop-down menus, and the results show the characters I selected, but also unwanted third or fourth characters. It’s making it incredibly difficult to find fanfiction of my pairing. Anyone else seeing this?

Fanfiction.net added the ability for people to add more than two characters to a fic. However the ability to display all four characters has not been deployed yet. You are just going to stop thinking of those characters being listed as an indication of a pairing.
